A leopard cannot change its spots, but a man can change his mind.
So saying that’s how it’s always been, is an insult to mankind.
With memory and language we’ve transcended the natural.
Breathing life in to our culture and making it actual.
A lion today knows no more, than any lion born before.
Still chasing down that wild boar and tucking in to eat it raw.
Fish still swimming in the sea, unchanged for millions of years we see.
Even a monkey in a tree, bears no comparison to we.
Through memory and speech we rule.
So to read and write we’re taught in school.
Cross generations handed down.
Has won our species the earth’s crown.
Carved in stone in ancient tones.
Or purchased now from waterstones.
The internet’s our greatest tool.
Collecting all our knowledge pool.
We differ from the natural world.
Due to change through which we’ve hurled.
As we would find a vast contrast.
Between a modern man and one from the past.
We once believed the earth was flat.
Thankfully we disproved that.
The sun once went around the earth.
Yet now we know that theories worth.
In eugenics we once believed.
But humans change, don’t be deceived.
And so what it is I’m trying to say.
Is precedent can’t lead the way.
‘It’s always been that way you see’.
‘That’s how it is, don’t you agree’.
A common view held sadly now.
Perhaps they simply don’t know how.
To see past what they see around.
An unconscious arrogance is found.
In assuming we have reached the peak.
And our race has reached the goal we seek.
Were transient with no fixed state.
A new worlds ours to create.
Time to say ‘well if that’s how it’s been done.
In a different age it was begun’.
So time to move and plant anew.
To replace the world we’ve fast outgrew.
To humanize and rationalize, create a world that unifies.
To discuss the discussions we ostracise create a world history defies.
To focus eyes upon the prize, cut through the lies and joined we rise.
