Stealing idea’s they say is the worst.
Because you see, it’s mine and I thought of it first
But that idea that just popped into your head
is based on something that someone else said
An idea you see is a link in a chain
A historical progression of the human brain
Your specific idea you thought of first
And deserve reward for a passion nursed
Both in financial respect and self content
But halting our progress should not be your intent
For selling and owning are not the same thing
It’s owning that stops us from discovering
It halts us in upon our human quest
To utilize our skills and be the best
To constantly improve upon
The work that someone else begun
We patent this, get rights to that
It’s ours not yours, we’ll get fat
But if we say, it’s everyone’s
Every daughters, every sons
With ease we can accelerate
The growth which ownership stagnates
Build upon technology
Pool knowledge on oncology
Solve global problems globally
And set our own ideas free
But what of our golden instigator
This genius idea’s creator
Do they go home with nothing more
Than pride embedded in their core
There can still be fiscal rewards
Just no monopolies or greedy hoards
Invent, invest, create, compete
And your product will be more complete
if we all have access to all we know
The need to know new things will grow
There’s always a next step to take
Don’t rest your laurels on what you make
Make them, sell them, if they’re good
Then in the profits are bound to flood
But bear in mind , across the street
May be someone with which to compete
So innovate faster than he can
Or lower your prices to a different plan
I reject the fact we’d not survive
Without personally owning the knowledge of the hive
Excessive financial gains are overruled
By the problems solved with knowledge pooled
